New York Historical Society Mid-Renovation

From The New York Historical Society website

Truth be told, I have yet to visit the New York Historical Society. But I’ll be certain to pop over after the completion of their new $65 million, window-filled renovation!
From The New York TImes:

“It was designed as a vault, to keep treasures safe, not to invite the public to enjoy them,” said Louise Mirrer, the society’s president and chief executive, during a recent tour of the work. “We feel very differently about the public. There’s really no point in having these extraordinary collections if people can’t learn something from them.”

“We wanted people to know what we do here,” Ms. Mirrer added. “The building didn’t give very many clues to the outside world as to what happened inside of it, and we thought it should give as many clues as possible.”
